THE LAST BOX – A New British Short Film

We are currently developing and raising funds for The Last Box, a moving and gently humorous short film about love, loss, friendship and the difficult process of saying goodbye.

Set against the Derbyshire countryside and the disappearing landscape of Britain's iconic red telephone boxes, The Last Box follows Frank, a widower in his late seventies, who is carrying the ashes of his late wife, Margaret.

When his old friend Dave is sent to inspect some of the area's remaining telephone boxes, Frank sees an opportunity. Determined to find the perfect place to leave Margaret's ashes, he joins Dave on an unusual journey from box to box.

But as the day unfolds, it becomes clear that Frank isn't really struggling to find the right place.

He's struggling to let her go.

Combining dry British humour with an emotional and heartfelt story, The Last Box explores grief through the friendship between two men who approach life — and loss — in very different ways.

For over thirty five years, Graham has climbed the same Derbyshire hillside on the 25th of July.

Armed with nothing more than an old military radio, a homemade aerial, and a notebook filled with decades of observations, he waits for a transmission from the mysterious beings he calls "The Others."

As a documentary crew follows Graham during the two days leading up to his annual vigil, what begins as the portrait of an ordinary man with an extraordinary belief slowly becomes something far more unsettling.

Is Graham simply clinging to a childhood memory... or has he been keeping a promise that was always meant to be fulfilled?

UNTIL THE CALL is a character-driven British  pseudo documentary blending understated humour, mystery, and atmospheric storytelling. Set against the breathtaking landscapes of Derbyshire, the film explores faith, routine, loneliness, and the hope that keeps us waiting—even when nobody else believes.
